Off-duty firefighter rescues man from burning vehicle following Ballymena crash

An off-duty firefighter has saved a person from a burning vehicle after a crash in Co Antrim.

A three-vehicle collision happened at Ballymena’s Larne Link Road on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said fire crews from the nearby Ballymena Fire Station arrived at the scene.

“Colleagues from the PSNI, NIAS, Air Ambulance and St John’s Ambulance also assisted at the scene,” the spokesperson said.

“One male casualty was rescued from the burning vehicle due to the quick actions of an off-duty firefighter.”



One person was taken to hospital by the Air Ambulance.

A PSNI spokesperson said the road remained closed on Sunday evening.
