Police are investigating an aggravated burglary in the Knockbreda Park area of south Belfast in the early hours of Monday.

POLICE are investigating a link between the disposing of suspected stolen goods in water and a "terrifying" aggravated burglary in south Belfast.

Two men were stopped by police at around 6am on Monday in the Ormeau Road area after being seen throwing items into nearby water.

The items included various suspected stolen goods, which were reclaimed by officers from Belfast Harbour Police.

The pair, aged 37 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and other offences.

A PSNI spokesperson said the two men were suspects in relation to a report of an earlier burglary in the Knockbreda Park area of the city.

Shortly before 2am two men, believed to be armed, entered the property through a broken window and demanded car keys from the occupants and stole a wallet containing a sum of cash.

"This was a terrifying experience for the occupants of the property and our investigation is now underway to establish what happened, who was involved, and a motive," the spokesperson said.

"We are currently investigating a potential link between both reports and are appealing to anyone who was in the Knockbreda Park and Ormeau Road areas, and saw anything suspicious, to call detectives on 101, quoting reference number 228 of 27/02/23."
