POLICE investigating the death of a Romanian national in a Co Down fishing village have renewed their appeal for information a week on from the attack.

Stefan Zait, who had been living and working on fishing vessels in Ardglass for six years, sustained serious head injuries in an assault, which took place in the village between 10.30am and 11am on Tuesday, May 22.

The 45-year-old died two days later.

Police said Mr Zait had been attacked outside a property at Lighthouse Cove in Ardglass and said his family had been left "devastated and they deserve to know what happened to him."

One man has been charged with Mr Zait's murder.

A police spokesman renewed their appeal for help. A spokesman said: "Although a 20-year-old male suspect has been charged, we are continuing to appeal for information about the circumstances surrounding Stefan’s death@.

Police want to hear from anyone in the Downpatrick Road or Strangford Road on Tuesday morning and appealed to anyone who may have captured any footage at the scene, either on devices or on dashcams, to get in touch.
