A MIURDER inquiry is under way into the death of a 14-year-old girl after her body was found in a derelict farmhouse in Co Dublin.

Anastasia Kriegel, from Lucan in west Dublin, was last seen at St Catherine's Park - 200 acres of woods and grassland across Dublin and Kildare - at 5.30pm on May 14.

The body was discovered in the building on Clonee Road in Lucan at around 1pm on Thursday and the scene was sealed off.

Gardai began treating her death as murder after a post-mortem was carried out in the early hours of Friday morning to determine the exact cause of death.

Gardai are looking into whether Anastasia may not have been alone at the time she went missing.

The scene at Clonee Road remains sealed off as the Garda's technical examination continues.

Supt Gordon said the girl's family are "receiving a lot of support from An Garda Siochana but they are extremely distressed".

He added: "We are appealing to the public for their assistance at this time, we are appealing to anybody who was at St Catherine's Park from 5pm onwards or on the Clonee Road on Monday 14 May to contact the Garda's instant room at Lucan Garda station on 01 666 7300."
