A NORTH Belfast woman has told how she is subjected to constant verbal abuse when she leaves her home due to her facial disfigurement.

Janine Howard (33) has been left distraught by the comments from teenagers and has called on those responsible to "stop the torment".

Ms Howard's facial disfigurement was caused by a rare bacterial infection she contracted while in hospital as a child when she developed leukaemia.

She said that she did not want to be a "freak show" every time she left her house and had taken to wearing headphones to block out the abuse.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating the abuse.
