TWO men have been arrested after an elderly woman disturbed a burglar in her home in Co Tyrone.

The incident happened on the Castlecaulfield Road, between Castlecaulfield and Donaghmore, at around 9.40pm on Wednesday night.

Police said that a man fled from the house after being discovered by the owner in the kitchen.

Inspector Alan Smyth said: "Officers responded and apprehended two men aged 40 and 45 a short distance from the house. Both men remain in custody at this time assisting officers with their enquiries."

Meanwhile, in Co Antrim, two men attempting to break into a house were also disturbed by the occupant.

It is believed that a number of items may have been stolen from a garden shed at the property at Lylehill Road in Templepatrick at around 11.25am on Wednesday.

The two men fled the scene after being disturbed while trying to break into the house.

It is believed they made off in a black Insignia car, which had been stolen from Cranmore Gardens in south Belfast on Tuesday.

The car was found abandoned in the Divismore Crescent area of west Belfast.
