A CO Armagh man is set to embark on the unusual challenge of racing a horse for 24 hours.

Stevey McGeown is known for his "off the wall" adventures, but his latest endeavour will see the father-of-three race a horse in a two-mile loop around the Palace Demense in Armagh.

While Mr McGeown said they will use several horses for the challenge, he hopes to "just take a few breaks" himself during the 24-hours and to try to continue "running non-stop".

It's not the first time the life coach (38) has embarked on adventure, last year he took on a mammoth challenge of running 60 marathons in 60 days across Ireland.

Originally from Ballymacnab, Mr McGeown travelled across all 32 counties to support three charities - Fighting Blindness, Buddy Bench Ireland and the Paddy Wallace Fund for Autism.

He also previously completed 100 marathons in 100 days in 2015.

He said his latest challenge, which will begin on June 30 from 2pm, will be a "once in a lifetime opportunity".

"I will basically be running a two-mile loop of the Palace Demense and a horse will be running beside me," he said.

"We will obviously have to change the horse a few times to another during the 24 hours, but I will be running non-stop.

"This is going to be an incredible event and I am calling out to all runners in the surrounding areas to come along and join in for a once in a lifetime opportunity to test your metal against a horse.

"If you are not into the running, no worries just come along and enjoy the entertainment - it will be epic."

The 24-hour long event will be a family fun festival with lots of activities, entertainment and music ongoing throughout the challenge.

All proceeds from the event will be in support of 'Run for Autism HAND' - a charity which helps those living with autism and their families in the Armagh and Newry areas.
