MOURNERS at the funeral of Ciara McGreevy heard the former Down GAA player described as a someone with a "a strong heart of love in giving to others and in caring for those around her".

As the funeral got underway in Rostrevor, mourners honoured the family's request to "wear pink for Ciara" in remembering the 31 year-old who died suddenly in her home in Warrepoint on Monday.

Ms McGreevy died from a suspected cardiac arrest but relatives have been told they will have to wait at least three months for the results of a pathology report.

With links to Ballymartin and Saul GAA clubs, her death has left the community around Warrenpoint "deeply shocked".

Well-known for her fundraising efforts for various charities, Ms McGreevy was also a talented musician, who played the violin, guitar and piano, and at one time trained with the Ulster Orchestra.

Those who gathered at St Mary's Star of the Sea Church heard the former GAA county star described as a "very bright and focused individual" who was "full of life".

Fr Brendan Kearns said Ms McGreevy was a "popular girl" who had "a strong heart of love in giving to others and in caring for those around her".

"Whilst her heart of love for others was strong, sadly it was a weakness of her heart that was to be the cause of her life being cut so short and so suddenly," he said.

"But in her short life Ciara achieved many things. She was a driven and focused person who achieved a lot. She was a bubbly person who was the life and soul of the party. She was a full craic and full of life and loved being in the middle of things and people".

Fr Kearns added that Ms McGreevy was "a generous person who loved to give", adding that she was "a thoughtful person" who was "always thinking of others."

Following Requiem Mass, Ms McGreevy was laid to rest in Kilbroney Cemetery.
