Derry man (75) to stand trial on sex offences related to the Termonbaca Children's home

A 75-year-old Derry man is to stand trial charged in connection with sex offences related to the Termonbaca Children's home in the city.

Patrick O'Hagan of Groarty Road appeared at the city's crown court where he faced 20 charges including indecent assault and gross indecency involving seven individuals.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between October 1954 and December 1972.

When the charges were put to him Mr O'Hagan he pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Defence barrister Mark Reel said that some of the complainants had already given evidence to the Historical Abuse Inquiry and to inquiries in the Republic.

He said it was unlikely that the case would proceed before the summer and added that some of the allegations date back 60 years.

The case will be reviewed on May 23 and the defendant was released on continuing bail.
