TRIBUTES have been paid to the man who helped turn a Co Fermanagh stately home into one of Ireland's most desirable venues for film crews, brides and day-trippers.

Noel Johnston who was the steward of Crom Castle's `west wing' for more than a decade, died suddenly on Friday morning.

He oversaw the transformation of the castle from the palatial family home of Viscount Crichton to a thriving tourism attraction, which has featured in its own documentary and been the backdrop for BBC series `Blandings' based on the popular PG Wodehouse books.

The owner paid tribute on the castle's official Facebook page.

"We are all deeply saddened and shocked at the recent news that our manager Noel Johnston has sadly passed away," he said.

"Noel started the business with my late father and myself in 2004 and was a huge part in growing and running the business and all that went on here.

"He was an excellent manager and all who met him will remember him for his warm hospitality, sense of humour and dedication.

"We send his wife Amanda and sons Jamie, Ashley and Luke our deepest condolences and love. RIP Noel and thank you for all you did for my family and Crom Castle.

"Another sad day so soon after my father's passing in December but will remember them both so much."

Dozens of people who had passed through Crom Castle added their condolences to those of Viscount Crichton, describing him as a "gentleman".
