A 26-YEAR-old mother-of-two brutally assaulted in Co Antrim last week remains in hospital as police appealed for information about a car driven by her suspected attacker.

Stephen McFarlane (33) was arrested on Friday afternoon after two police cars trapped his white Audi A6 car in east Belfast following a high-speed chase.

He was arrested after the woman was stabbed multiple times in her home on Ashgrove Road in Glengormley on Wednesday evening.

Police have appealed for information about the movements of the Audi between Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.

The car's registration is T44SMF but it may not have been displaying its plates at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Tracey Mageean said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who noticed this car being driven between the evening of Wednesday 13th and lunchtime on Friday 15th January, when it was detected by police and stopped in east Belfast".

McFarlane was taken to the Ulster Hospital following his arrest and was still there under police guard on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old woman remains in a stable condition tonight in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
