A BALLYMENA man has been charged with attempted murder.

Standing in the dock of the towns Magistrates Court on Thursday, 24-year-old Kyle Rainey nodded over to friends and supporters in the public gallery and spoke only to confirm that he understood the single charge against him.

Rainey, from Rossdale in the town, is charged with the attempted murder of Alan Hunter on October 29 this year.

The 30-year-old was stabbed in an incident on the Waveney Road in the town and had to be treated in hospital for his injuries.

On Thursday a police officer said he believed he could connect Rainey to the allegation which defence barrister Aaron Thompson said was strongly denied.

As there was no bail application lodged with the court, District Judge Des Perry remanded Rainey into custody to appear again next week.
