A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 16 months in jail for having £7,000 of cocaine hidden in a trainer at his home last year.

Peter Gallagher Jnr, who was living at Tranarossan Avenue in Derry, admitted possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

When police searched his home on August 7 2014, they found £7,000 of cocaine stuffed into a sandwich bag and hidden in the toe of one of his trainers.

Gallagher Jnr is the ninth person to be sentenced as part of this investigation. Others have yet to stand trial.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure said drugs have been seized as part of the wider investigation.

"Seizures have been made in Antrim, Belfast, Larne and Hillsborough amounting to more than £2 million but we believe there is a strong Derry link to this organised crime group’s activities," he said.

Gallagher Jnr was sentenced at Derry Crown Court to 16 months for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and given a further two months in respect of previous suspended sentences.
