AN Irish nanny awaiting trial in the US for the alleged murder of a baby in her care will be fitted with a GPS tracking device after being granted bail by a court.
Aisling Brady McCarthy, originally from Cavan in the Republic but in the US illegally since 2002, will be placed under house arrest and monitored remotely, Middlesex Superior Court in Massachusetts confirmed. She is charged with the murder of one-year-old Rehma Sabir in January 2013 and has been in jail awaiting trial for more than two years.
Her release under strict conditions was announced by Judge Maureeen Hogan after a fresh review of medical evidence by the Massachusetts state medical examiner was ordered.
The re-examination is expected to last at least one month.
Bail conditions include a cash bond of US$15,000 (£9,000), Middlesex Superior Court confirmed.
Brady McCarthy, in her thirties, had been living in the Quincy area of Massachusetts up until her arrest over the baby's death in January 2013.
Court records previously revealed that a bloodstained pillow, blanket and baby wipes were found in Rehma's bedroom after emergency services were called to the baby's home on Ash Street, Cambridge. Brady McCarthy had been employed as a nanny by entrepreneur Sameer Sabir, the baby's father and his wife Nada Siddiqui, who is originally from Karachi, Pakistan.
The couple had moved from London to the US.
The nanny worked for them for six months up until their baby's death.
Brady McCarthy's lawyer, Melinda Thompson claimed, after the arrest, that her client had no role in the baby's death.
It is understood she was married in Massachusetts last year to Donald McCarthy, a painter originally from Cork.
