David Suchet has been lauded for his creepy appearance in Doctor Who.

Viewers called for the Poirot star to be handed a Bafta for his portrayal of the landlord in the latest episode Knock Knock, in which he offers the Doctor’s companion Bill and five of her student friends cheap rooms in a huge spooky house when they’re struggling to find somewhere to live.

In an episode full of creaking floorboards, the horror film-like house is full of sinister secrets and infested with insects which consumed people to help keep the landlord’s mother alive.

On social media, Doctor Who fans heaped praise on Suchet’s performance and one even called for him to become the next time lord.

There was also more love for the Doctor’s assistant, Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) as she rejected the advances of one of her new housemates, telling him: “I tend to go for girls”.

@FobObsessed posted: “And Bill just properly came out I love this show#DoctorWho”, while another viewer wrote: “Bill just openly said she’s gay/bi, I’m so f****** happy”.Bill, who joined Peter Capaldi’s Doctor at the beginning of the current series, is the first clearly defined gay character in the programme’s history.
