IRISH fast food chain Supermac’s has announced plans to re-open 15 of its 116 outlets on a limited basis for deliveries and takeaways.

However, its sole Northern Ireland outlet in Derry is not included.

Supermac’s, along with restaurant chains including McDonalds and Nando’s, closed all branches last month in line with government advice.

Nando's confirmed plans to re-open restaurants in Dublin as well as London and Manchester yesterday.

A spokesman said while there were no immediate plans to re-open its Northern Ireland outlets, if the initial return to business was successful more sites would be re-opened soon.

A spokesman for Supermac’s said the re-opening programme would be limited to delivery only in a some restaurants and collection from 13 drive-through outlets.

He said only sites which could meet social distancing guidelines for staff and customers would be opened.

“The outlets will be opened on a phased basis in locations where the company can provide hot cooked meals to the public while fully implementing government guidelines regarding social distancing for our staff and customers.

“Initially we will provide only drive-through, delivery and drive and collect where it is safe to do so. All lobbies will remain closed until further notice."

Burger King has also reopened outlets at service stations on the M1 and M2 for delivery only.
