A CO Down pastor who battled coronavirus has finally been reunited with his wife and young family after three weeks of hospital treatment and self-isolation.

Mark McClurg, a pastor of Ards Elim, was discharged from hospital on March 29 after fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald after contracting Covid-19.

Last week the 40-year-old revealed that he made the "really difficult decision" to self-isolate at a friend's house, away from his wife Claire, two young sons and a daughter amid fears he would spread the virus.

"As I have three small children, this was too much for me because I knew they would want to hug me and love me," he said last week.

Mr McClurg, who had shared several updates from his hospital bed during his stay, said in a further post on his Facebook on Sunday that he was overjoyed to be reunited with his family again.

"After nearly three weeks away from my loving family I am so pleased to be home again," he wrote.

"Firstly I would like to thank the staff of the Ulster Hospital for saving my life.

"I would like to thank my church family for praying for me. I would also like thank everyone for their prayers and their kindness.

"I would like to thank Jesus for healing my body. Please can you share this picture to give hope for doctors and nurses helping to save people’s lives who have coronavirus.

"Let’s get people home to their families. Be kind."
