TORTILLA will open its first restaurant in Northern Ireland next week, creating 30 new jobs.

The London-based Mexican restaurant chain has confirmed its new Belfast city centre outlet will open on July 21.

FTSE-listed Tortilla Mexican Grill secured planning approval for the new restaurant in October last year.

The unit is located at Arthur Square, between Cornmarket, Victoria Square and Arthur Street.

The ground floor unit was previously used by Google and shoe retailer Hotter, but has been vacant since October 2020.

The fast-casual Californian-style Mexican restaurant chain, which specialises in burritos and tacos, opened its first outlet in London during 2007.

It now employs more than 1,000 people, with more than 80 locations in the UK, alongside 10 outlets in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

Tortilla’s chief executive, Richard Morris, said: “We’re thrilled to finally be opening in the city of Belfast.

“We’ve got a fantastic location in the city centre and a passionate team who embody the values of our friendly local brand.

“Tortilla exists to make life better with burritos, and the response we’ve had from locals in the lead-up to opening has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Tortilla will mark the Belfast launch by giving away free burritos on Friday July 21. To qualify, customers must register at tortilla.co.uk/Belfast and visit the Arthur Square venue between 12-1.30pm on the day.
