FAST food giant McDonald’s is set to get the green light to build a new 24 hour drive-through restaurant in Enniskillen.

Planning officials at Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have recommended the food chain be given permission to proceed with its plans to demolish the former TP Topping car dealership on the Dublin Road for a new build.

TP Topping closed its car sales business in 2019 after trading for almost 90 years in Enniskillen.

The site was sold soon after, just a few months it was listed on the market with an asking price of £1.5 million.

McDonald’s, which operated side-by-wide with TP Topping on the Dublin Road for many years, launched its plans to redevelop the former dealership in 2021.

The fast food giant said its current Enniskillen operation is “currently capped by the size and flexibility” of its current building in the town centre.

More than two years on, the next meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh’s planning committee will consider the recommendation to approve the plans.

The report to be considered by the committee on July 19, confirms McDonald’s plans to build a new drive-through that will open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It would see the fast food chain vacate its current premises next door, to occupy the new build drive-through.

A report supporting the application, said: “The opportunity allows the business to relocate in the immediate vicinity and grow with the introduction of a drive-thru lane, with minimal disruption of their staff and this potential to increase jobs.”

McDonald’s currently operates 33 restaurants in the north, employing just over 3,000 people.
