ANTRIM manufacturing firm SAM Mouldings is to invest £7 million this year to expand its business.

The company, which makes MDF mouldings, has broken ground on a new 45,000 sq ft warehouse.

The manufacturer, which employs around 175 people in Co Antrim, said £5m will be invested in the new warehouse ‘to fulfil its delivery, stock hold, and stock range goals’.

A further £2m will be invested in business improvements.

Sales director, Gerard Wilson, said: “We hope that the benefits of this significant investment will be felt by both our customers and the local community for many years to come.

“For our customers and merchants, they have had three really challenging years with industry price increases, supply issues and delayed work with the pandemic.

“During this time we’ve worked incredibly hard to scale up our level of marketing support and communications with suppliers to make their lives easier and be a trusted reliable partner to all our customers.”

The last accounts reported for the company show it recorded £58.6m in turnover during the year to February 2022.

It left the firm with the profit before tax of £15.3m, around three times the figure from 2021.
