MEDWYN Holdings, parent company of Enniskillen-founded steel fabricators BHC, has revealed a near-50 per cent increase in revenues in the year to March 31 as its sales edged towards the £100 million mark.

Figures filed at Companies House show that Medwyn, which is owned and operated by husband and wife team Brian and Marjorie Hewitt, now the company's managing director and finance director respectively, had a turnover of £96.45 million over the year - a massive jump from the previous year's figure of £65m.

Bottom-line profit at the holding company, which was founded in 1992, came in at £9.1m against £8.2m the year before.

Net assets of the group - which works in structures from sheds to shopping centres - increased to £52.1m from £47.2m in 2021.

Staff numbers dipped marginally over the year to 403, made up of 207 in production, 106 in administrative and technical roles, and 10 in management.

The wages bill over the year still increased, however - up to £17.8m from £15.9m. Salaries for the directors rose a shade to £133,642.

BHC was founded 30 years ago with the capacity to fabricate 30 tonnes of structural steel a week, but today it processes 800 tonnes a week to service the agricultural, commercial, education, gas and oil, health, industrial and power sectors.

The company's manufacturing facilities and plant are set in a recently extended 55-acre site in Lanarkshire, and it recently invested £4m to expand its fabrication and painting facility by 44 per cent, meaning BHC has now one of the largest paint shops in the UK.

Renewable energy currently fuels 72 per cent of BHC’s production and office supplies. It also has a wind turbine within its manufacturing facilities, producing just over 1.3 million kWh per year.

BHC also has 13 biomass units on site producing 6.2 million kilowatt hours (kWh) a year, and since their installation in 2015 the company has generated more than 31 million kWh of ‘green heat’.

The company.s client list includes the likes of Diageo, RBS, Aviva, Manchester City FC and the NHS.
