PLANNING permission has been granted for a multi-million pound housing development in Derry

Braidwater Homes has been given the green light for 241 new homes at Beech Hill View on the Glenshane Road.

Outline planning permission for the new homes has been in place for a number of years, with a recommendation for approval from the planning department. The application was officially ratified at last week's meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council planning committee.

Braidwater said the decision is an "endorsement of the hard work and commitment to public consultation" to ensure the local storm water infrastructure is adequately designed for all possible conditions.

"We are pleased that this critical development for the local economy can proceed without further delay," a spokesperson said.

The development comprises a mix of 102 detached; 124 semi-detached and 15 apartments, as well as associated domestic garages, a children's play area and a new right hand turn lane.

Construction work, which is due to begin early next year will see the creation of between 60 and 80 jobs.

In addition to the new jobs, the wider project will see the investment of £1.5m in local road upgrades and landscape management.

It is anticipated the first homes will be available for completion in the Autumn.

Braidwater Homes is one of the north’s leading house builders and currently has live developments at Birch Hill in Derry and Castlehill in Belfast. New developments in Derry at Upper Galliagh Road and Ballyquin in Limavady will be released in 2019.
