THE north's largest office furniture provider has secured a lucrative government contract in Nigeria.

Belfast-based Alpha Group has secured its first contract outside the UK and Ireland with the African deal to supply workspaces.

The major export contract was secured by 1080°, the Alpha Group’s design division and is being undertaken in partnership with Senator - Britain’s largest office furniture manufacturer.

The agreeement will see 1080° design and instal workspaces for 250 employees in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The deal follows one of the company’s largest contracts in history, Scottish Power’s new headquarters in Glasgow.

Alpha Group chief executive Paul Black said the Nigeria contract was part of the company's ambitious plans for international growth.

“Having experience beyond our own borders shows potential clients that we have the logistical expertise to deliver a project anywhere in the world. This is especially attractive to global organisations as they prefer to have one consistent design across cities. Having the Nigeria experience in our portfolio shows potential customers that we can be a ‘one-stop-shop’ and guarantee organisations a cohesive feel across continents.”

“While we are proud to be headquartered in Northern Ireland, we know there is more room for business development if we look for opportunities further afield. With our growing international expertise and our expanded footprint in Great Britain, we are in a strong position to secure more contracts globally while continuing to build on our success in the UK and Ireland," he added.

Headquartered in Belfast, the Alpha Group operates in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. The Alpha Group has been trading in in the north for more than 45 years.
