A COMBINED choir and orchestra from north and south will present an extravaganza of choral music in Belfast this Saturday evening at the Ulster Hall.

It will be the first northern performance of 250 participants from the Saint George's Singers from Belfast, Artane Choral Society, mixed voice choir Dolce from Drumcondra, and Dublin Airport Singers singing with the Dublin Orchestral Players, after an earlier joint concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin last month.

Dr Marion Doherty Hayden from Saint George's Singers will conduct the concert and Moira singer Hayley Howe and Elizabeth Hilliard from Dublin will sing soprano solos in Mendelssohn’s rarely performed Symphony No. 2 (Hymn of Praise), with Dublin-born Andrew Gavin singing both evangelist and tenor roles.

Handel’s Zadok the Priest will also be performed and Kilkenny virtuoso Patrick Rafter will play Dvo?ák’s violin concerto in A minor.

Tickets cost £20 each /£18 concession and can be bought at the Ulster Hall box office or via www.ulsterhall.co.uk.
