WHO: Ming City Rockers

WHAT: Glam four-piece from Immingham, near Grimsby, consisting of Clancey Jones, Morley Adams, Ramona Rae and Wan Marshall.

WHY: People with names like that deserve to be famous. There's also the matter of their music, which nods to the likes of garage rock legends MC5 and New York Dolls.

HOW: "Born in a crossfire hurricane of toxic petrochemical stench and budget-price hairspray, Ming City Rockers, underdog children of Austerity Britain, are on the rise," says Ming City Rockers' official biography.

There's some truth in that.

They hail from Immingham on the banks of the Humber, home to a giant plasterboard factory, oil refineries and plastic manufacturers.

From their hair, it's safe to assume they definitely know a thing or two about where to find the best deals on Elnett.

Musically, they're raucous good fun, harking back to the likes of Detroit garage heroes MC5 and the glammy New York Dolls, while their name is a take on The Clash anthem Clash City Rockers.

"All the music we like comes from rock and roll," says MCR frontman Clancey Jones.

"But there's nothing rock and roll about anything that's famous in music at the minute. It really sucks.

"Obviously, we don't sound like Chuck Berry or anything, but we're just trying to do our version of it."

For recording their new album Lemon, set for release on March 25, they called in Steve Albini, who famously helmed the desk for Nirvana's In Utero and Surfer Rosa by the Pixies.

Albini has added some heft to the band's sound, while their song titles – All I Wanna Do Is Waste My Time With You, I Don't Mind If You Don't Mind and How Do You Like Them Apples? to name but three – are good enough on their own.

WHERE: The band are heading out on the road later this year, with dates to be announced soon.

Until then, they have one album to their name already, the eponymous Ming City Rockers, which was released in 2014
