Daniel and Majella O'Donnell renewed their wedding vows after 20 years.

FOR Co Donegal singer Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Majella, the new year has started on a hopeful note as they renewed their wedding vows.

Sharing pictures of the happy couple from an intimate ceremony yesterday, the Kincasslagh singer (61) said: “After a wonderful 20 years of marriage, Majella and I renewed our vows with a small family gathering tonight at our home in Donegal.”

Thousands of fans were quick to send their congratulations and share their own marriage tips.

In a recent interview with RSVP magazine, the couple explained how they would be celebrating Christmas with Majella’s two children from her first marriage and grandchildren.

Sharing his tips on family bliss, Daniel said: “We get on great with one another – that’s not to say we don’t bicker away. I don’t know what we’ve learned about marriage, other than that we respect one another. Getting married when we were older and not having young children was a factor. Lovely as it is to have children, there is a pressure that comes with them. It can be a struggle and hard work and we didn’t have that.”

Majella added: “While Olivia, Archie and Luke are my biological grandchildren, Daniel is nearly better with them. He has more patience. I’m a very impatient person. I love the kids to bits, don’t get me wrong, but when they’re frustrating me, they know it. They could never frustrate Daniel, never. It doesn’t matter what they do – he is just the most fantastic granddad to them, and they love the bones of him. It’s really fantastic to see. Daniel got to have this without having to go through raising a family of his own. And they are his family now – 100%”.
