Fr Davies Cup final

Our Lady & St Patrick’s, Knock 3-5 St Mary’s, Magherafelt 4-12

A FIRST-half scoring blitz from St Mary’s, Magherafelt saw the south Derry school lift the Fr Davies Cup for the first time in sunny St Enda’s yesterday afternoon.

Goals from Emily McGuckin, Sarah Gribben and Caoimhe McErlean gave them a commanding 3-8 to 1-0 lead at the break as they dominated the play from the 10th minute onwards.

Indeed, Hollie Sands in the Knock goals did well to keep the scoreline to that level, while Sarah Monan’s goal in the 21st minute gave the south Belfast side a glimmer of hope.

When Monan pointed on the re-start and Eimear Kelly grabbed a goal in the fourth minute, that hope grew.

However, St Mary’s rallied at the back and then broke five minutes later for Eva Forbes to pick off a point that sparked another scoring burst over the next five minutes that had a second McErlean goal in between more points for Forbes.

There was only going to be one winner from there despite great heart from a Knock team led by Caitlin Fay, Evie McHugh and Caoimhe Dorrian, with Dorrian grabbing 1-3 in the last five minutes.

IN the Lily Spence Shield semi-final, St Paul’s, Bessbrook came from 1-0 to 0-6 down at the break to beat St Columba’s, Portaferry by 4-2 to 0-7.

Annabelle McKevitt scored the first-half goal and Grainne Coyle (1-2), Suzie Quinn(1-0) and Caitlin Carnegie (1-0) were the key scorers during the second half, while Caoimhe Smyth (0-4) did her best to keep St Columba’s in the hunt.

St Paul’s now play St Benedict’s Randalstown.
