TYRONE denied Mayo a second successive Very National League Division Four crown with corner forward

Lára Devlin and substitute Roisín McErlean putting on a point-scoring master class in Tang.

The sides were level on a number of times with Tyrone picking off points, but being pulled back by Mayo goals.

Mayo however, got the first two points with Lisa Scahill and Ciara Delaney on target inside the first two minutes.

Casey Gallagher with two strikes and Edendork’s rising star Lára Devlin edged Tyrone ahead before the first goal of the game in the sixth minute.

Ava Lambert drove home from the 13-metre line latching on to a neat pass from midfield partner Aoife Doherty.

However, Devlin, Kaitlin Gallagher and Reagan Fay (free) responded and the Ulster side went on to lead by 0-11 to 1-6 in the 27th minute.

Úna McCann denied Linda Scahill with a stunning save before her side was hit by a second Mayo goal when Hannah Tener doubled overhead on a free from distance from Amy Mulkeen.

Nevertheless the sides went in level at the interval, 2-6 to 0-12, with Lára Devlin shooting between the posts from wide on the left for her sixth point.

The third quarter was not as free scoring as the first half, although Lara Devlin continued where she left off hitting her seventh from play on the re-start. Regan Fay dropped a free over and substitute Róisín McErlean put them 0-16 to 2-7 ahead entering the final 10 minutes.

Defence was outstanding during this period as the wind was behind Mayo.

There were a few nervous moments during the last ten minutes when the Connacht side dropped a few balls around the Tyrone goal area.

But Úna McCann and her defenders coped well with them while McErlean and midfielder Aoibhinn Daly tagged on points to make the game safe.

The Player of the Match award went to 18-year-old Lára Devlin after she landed seven points.
