Ballycran knock Liatroim for six in a powerful performance in the Down Senior Hurling Club Championship

There were goals galore for Ballycran yesterday afternoon as they put six goals into the Liatroim net on route to a commanding 29-point victory in the second round of the Down Senior Hurling Championship.

It took all of three minutes for Ballycran to rattle the Liatroim goal, with Chrissy Egan netting to put Ballycran 1-2 up.

Three minutes later and Egan had already bagged his hat-trick, with Ballycran racking up an early score-line of 3-3.

By the time Egan scored his fourth goal of the match, Ballycran led 4-9 to 0-0.

As the teams left the field for the half-time break, the score-board made for worrying reading for the Liatroim faithful as Ballycran led 4-13 to 1-4 at the interval.

But there was more misery to come for Liatroim in the second half.

Colm McManus grabbed himself a goal and this was quickly followed up by Egan’s fifth goal of the day.

Egan was substituted to a hero’s reception as his team-mates continued their onslaught on the field.

By the time the ref blew his final whistle, Ballycran had scored an eye-watering 6-26 to Liatroim’s 1-12.

Ballycran won a record 25th Down Senior Hurling Championship title last year, and on this form, 26 may be around the corner.
