ROBERT EMMETT’S, SLAUGHTNEIL: ALPS (All Lives are Precious) will be visiting the club on Saturday, November 16 to provide QPR-accredited suicide prevention training from 10am to 4pm.

This is a six hour programme that will potentially leave you with the skill set to alter or indeed save a person’s life. We want to equip every coach and club member within our community with these skills, so please encourage everyone you know to take part.

MASTERS FUNDRAISER: The Down Masters will take on Donegal Masters in a fundraiser for suicide awareness charity PIPS at Tullylish GAC on Saturday, November 23.

The game, which throws-in at 4pm, is being supported by the Gaelic Masters’ Association and will be followed by music and craic in the clubrooms. Organiser Willie Fitzpatrick is a Down Masters player and mentor.

“Should it be a pound or fifty quid, every penny helps towards this cause,” he said.

“If we can help one person then it’s a success and I hope it is. We’re getting in a lot of sponsorship and it’s not about Down Masters or Donegal Masters or Tullylish club, it’s about suicide awareness and mental health in general.

“It affects us all. Maybe it’s not you directly, maybe it’s your friend or someone in your family. Mental health affects everybody every day in life. I have struggled myself and I have got through it so now it’s time for me to give something back.

“The feedback and the sponsorship has been unreal so far, let’s just hope we get the people through the gate on the day.”

REDMOND O’HANLON’S, POYNTZPASS: The club is appealing to anyone interested in playing senior football to get in touch.

The county Armagh club were junior championship and league winners in the late 1990s/early 2000s but in recent times emigration and retirements have taken their toll on the senior team.

O’Hanlon’s have also been threatened with the loss of promising young players to other clubs in the county despite the fact that those clubs have large squads at senior level.

“The club has a very committed and talented core group of senior players but we feel that we need to add to the squad for next season,” said an O’Hanlon’s spokesperson.

“We have excellent facilities at the club these days and a vibrant and successful underage structure but we are facing the same challenges that many rural clubs have to cope with nowadays.

“Anyone who is interested in training twice-a-week and playing football for the club at junior level is very welcome to get in touch.”

The spokesperson added: “We currently field teams from U6 and U14 level and we are always open to new underage players and coaches getting involved.”
