Collegeland overcome Derrynoose to claim Armagh Junior Championship

Collegeland claimed the Armagh Junior Football Championship courtesy of a three-point victory over Derrynoose in yesterday’s final in the Athletic Grounds.

The first 20 minutes were a very nip-and-tuck affair with both teams registering four points each.

However, on the 24th minute tenacious work by Collegeland seen them score the opening goal of the match.

They turned over Derrynoose and just when it looked as though the Derrynoose defence would regain possession, the ball ricocheted to Jason Kelly.

He shown great poise to strike the ball off the ground and cushion it into the bottom corner of the net.

But a few minutes later Derrynoose had a goal of their own. A quickly taken free kick found Pauric McNaughton and he rifled the ball into the net.

Collegeland held a slender 1-6 to 1-5 lead at the half-time interval and a strong end to the second half seen them over the line.

In the final ten minutes, they scored three points without reply and this spell seen them secure a hard-fought 1-12 to 1-9 victory.
