The Irish News is once again giving five lucky primary schools the chance to win a coaching day with a top inter-county star.

We have linked up with O’Neills Sportswear, Strathroy Dairy and St Mary’s University College to offer these excellent coaching days.

The coaching sessions are designed by the PE department at St Mary’s and all of the sessions will be attended by an inter-county star.

All the schools that take part in the promotion will receive a free set of 15 training bibs if they return 10 completed collector cards with the special tokens that will appear in The Irish News every day.

The Irish News sports editor Thomas Hawkins encouraged schools to get involved.

“It’s always a great day out for all the pupils,” he said.

“The Irish News School Coaching Days initiative is always very popular.

“The schools really get into the spirit of the initiative. It’s a great prize for the winning pupils, something they will remember for a very long time.

“For the five lucky winners a great day out awaits.”

The Irish News marketing manager John Brolly said: “The schools, teachers and children” will all benefit from the coaching days.

“We are delighted to partner with St Mary’s University College, O’Neills and Strathroy Dairy to run our school coaching days.

“The coaching sessions will provide a great day for the school children, but also offer encouragement for everyone to become involved in Gaelic games.

“Exercise is an important part of the day for children and the schools, teachers and children will all benefit from the high quality sessions provided by the St Mary’s coaches.”

O’Neills Sportswear have been involved in the coaching days initiative for several years. Managing director Kieran Kennedy said the company is keen to back a scheme that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for children.

He added: “O’Neills have been a partner in The Irish News Coaching Days from the outset and we greatly value this relationship.”

“It is fantastic to see the children enjoy themselves, actively taking part in sport due to their own enthusiasm and initiative in entering the competition.

“Also, it gives the students a great opportunity to coach children in Gaelic games and help develop the stars of the future.”

Strathroy Dairy has also given its backing to the competition.

Company spokesman Ruairi Cunningham said: “The Irish News coaching days are the ideal opportunity to let the children from the winning school have fun and learn about sport and the importance of a healthy lifestyle at the same time.

“Strathroy Dairy is delighted to continue its partnership and support for The Irish News School Coaching Days in association with St Mary’s University College.”
