Slane free swings things for Davitt's in Antrim Junior decider

Antrim JFC final: Davitt’s 1-7 Glenravel 0-6

THE turning point in this low-scoring Antrim final at Creggan came 12 minutes into the second half, with Glenravel leading by a point.

A long-range free by Davitt’s keeper Aaron Slane looked to be falling short but a Glenravel defender somehow allowed it to make its way over the line.

Davitt’s clutched the lifeline and held on, finishing the stronger side, with three late points giving them a 1-7 to 0-6 success.

The Belfast side led 0-3 to 0-2 at the break. After Chris Gallagher’s opener in the sixth minute, there were no further scores until Declan Traynor levelled 12 minutes later.

Gerard Burns pushed Davitt’s ahead again, with Daniel Largey doubling the lead.

The Glensmen, who squandered nine chances in the first half, were unlucky in injury-time when Aiden McCafferty’s effort was tipped over by Slane.

After an early second half score from Davitt’s centre half-forward Largey, Glenravel bravely hauled themselves back into it.

Conor McNeill and Josh McKeown levelled it before the latter gave them the lead for the first time.

However, Slane’s goal changed the game with three late Davitt’s points replied to by one from Gordon Dillon.

Three Glenravel players and one from Davitt’s were red-carded in injury-time.
