Harte: Unrealistic to expect players to be spoilers

HARTE also observed that fewer players are now willing to fulfil a brief in which their only duty is to blot an opponent out of the game.

"there are not many players who want to play like that nowadays. People want to play football," he said.

Harte also believes that it's unrealistic to expect footballers to perform a role which "doesn't come naturally to them".

He said: "You have to play with the players that you

have got. You just have to encourage players to do the best they can on the defensive

side of the game while still being footballers."

On a more positive note, Tyrone's incredible scoring rate is the reason they have remained unbeaten in Division One.

In their opening three games they have racked up tallies of 2-12, 2-15 and 3-16 - an average of 21 points per game.

While some commentators believe the black card rule has led to more free-flowing games, Harte said other factors have contributed to tyrone's attack-minded approach.

"All teams are now playing more on the front foot. The trend was moving in that direction. None of these things happen overnight.

"the black card is a factor, but it's not the only factor.

It was a trend that was going to happen anyway," he said. Tyrone's next game is against Kerry on Sunday in Fitzgerald Stadium (live on tG4). Harte revealed that Conor Gormley and Justin McMahon might be included in the squad that travels to Killarney.

"Conor Gormley and Justin McMahon are now training again with the team. They are on their way to returning to the squad. It's not far away. They are possibilities for Sunday's squad." Harte indicated that Joe McMahon (left) mightn't feature in this year's League campaign. The tyrone boss said the Omagh clubman "should be knocking on the door in a month's time". Tyrone's last two fixtures against Cork on March 30 (Pairc Uí rinn) and Dublin on april 6 (Healy Park) might come too soon for McMahon.
