Faith put in hurlers

OFFALY senior football manager Emmet McDonnell has called up Shane Dooley, Sean Ryan, Conor Mahon and Daniel Currams to his squad ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland football Qualifier against Tyrone in Tullamore.

The quartet were part of the Offaly hurling squad which lost out to Waterford in the All-Ireland SHC Qualifiers last weekend and McDonnell has wasted little time in drafting the men into the football panel.

The Faithful county have been hit with a spate of withdrawals in the last month, with Michael Brazil the latest player to decide to travel to the US for the summer following in the footsteps of Brian Connor, Luke Kelly, John Moloney and Eoin Rigney.

Defender David Brady is expected to miss Saturday's clash with the Red Hands with a hand injury, while goalkeeper Alan Mulhall is also a doubt with a calf injury.

Dooley, who is a prolific scorer for the Offaly hurlers, has never played inter-county football, but won an Offaly SFC medal with Tullamore in 2007.
