SSE Airtricity League Premier Division: Derry City v Drogheda United (Sunday, 6.30pm)

Derry City manager Ruaidhrí Higgins is likely to ring the changes for Sunday's crucial league clash against Drogheda United, at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

It's expected defenders Shane McEleney and Ciaran Coll, along with midfield pair Brandon Kavanagh and Jordan McEneff and front men Jamie McGonigle and Daniel Mullen will all feature against the Co Louth men.

City have dropped to fourth in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, with the likes of St Patrick's Athletic and Bohemians moving above them in the table after last week's results.

Derry now sit seven points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, but crucially for the Brandywell men, they have played a game fewer than all the sides ahead of them. Nevertheless, Suday evening's clash against Kevin Doherty's side is a big game for them.

Higgins also hopes that his squad can carry their recent good form into the encounter, as they have only suffered one defeat in their last eight matches and that loss came on Thursday night in their Europa Conference League first leg clash against Tobol Kostanay.

Despite that narrow 1-0 defeat in Kazakhstan, Higgins was pleased by his team's overall performance and that display should give his players confidence going into the Drogs game.

The 38-year-old boss also hopes that the Candystripes faithful come out in their numbers, as he feels they will play a major part in any result they get on Sunday.

"We understand that Sunday's game against Drogheda really is a huge game, a really big game," he insisted.

"We have no fresh injury concerns from our Europe game, obviously Cameron Dummigan is carrying an injury and Patrick (McEleney), who despite coming on in Kazakhstan is also carrying an injury, but we have no fresh injury concerns.

"We'll need a real vocal home support behind us on Sunday, to really get behind the team and see if we can get a big three points and we'll not be thinking about next Thursday's Europa Conference League second leg game, until after Sunday's match against Drogheda.

"We had a long journey home from Kazakhstan, but again, I can't praise Philip (O'Doherty, Chairman) enough and the club for organising us getting our own plane, because the trip home could and would have been a lot worse, so because of that we'll be ready to go on Sunday."
