MARK Allen wasted no time in reaching Friday’s quarter-finals of the BetVictor Welsh Open in Llandudno.

The Antrim man swept aside Robbie Williams 4-0, finishing in style with a break of 100. The Englishman managed only 20 points over the course of the four frames as Allen signalled his intent for the weekend ahead. He will now face John Higgins, who beat Matthew Selt 4-3.

Earlier in the day, Aaron Hill lost 4-1 to China’s Fan Zhengyi in the last 32. The Cork man had enjoyed a fine 4-2 win over Mark Selby on Wednesday night but despite winning the opening frame yesterday, the world number 33 dominated from there with breaks of 80, 59, 97 and 79.

World champion Luca Brecel, meanwhile, indicated that he is back to his best as he beat Tom Ford 4-1 to reach the last eight.
