WALES suffered an injury blow ahead of their RBS 6 Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday when full-back Gareth Anscombe was ruled out.

A Welsh Rugby Union spokesman said that Anscombe was suffering from a tight hamstring, but he would train fully next week ahead of Wales facing Scotland in Cardiff.

Cardiff Blues back Anscombe's place in the starting line-up was taken by Scarlets' Liam Williams. Williams has played barely 60 minutes' rugby since suffering a foot injury during the World Cup pool stage defeat against Australia at Twickenham last October.

Williams made his comeback when the Scarlets took on Guinness PRO12 opponents Connacht last weekend. He went straight into the Wales XV, with no changes required to the Wales replacements' bench.
