DJ Carey has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant Waterford senior hurling manager's position. Kilkenny legend Carey (left) said yesterday it was "news to him" that he had been nominated for the role despite reports in the media. Waterford clubs had until midnight last night to nominate candidates to be the next manager, but they have to be certain whether those candidates are willing to go forward for the position. It was announced last week that former Waterford hurlers Stephen Frampton and James Murray would be part of a six-man committee which would select the next Decies manager.

? DERRY MFC final: Watty Graham's, Glen..... 2-14 Slaughtneil...... 2-11 Watty Graham's continued their success at underage level in Derry when they were crowned county minor champions after beating Slaughtneil at Owenbeg last night. In a cracking game, the Glen side raced into a 2-6 to 0-2 half-time lead thanks to goals from Danny Tallon and Conor Convery. Slaughtneil rallied in the second-half and a goal from Frank McEldowney and scores from Cormac O'Doherty (who finished with six points) reduced the deficit. A late Shane McGuigan major took the game to the wire, but Watty Graham's held on to take the title. Convery ended with 1-3 for the winners, while Conor Glass and Tiarnan Flanagan scored three points each.

Gary Haveron has taken over as Carrick Rangers manager after former Northern Ireland star Michael Hughes stepped down from his position with the mid-table Championship One side. Hughes will remain as the club's chief executive and majority shareholder, with experienced player Haveron (above) taking the reins. Hughes said his commitments inside and outside of football meant he could not devote "the necessary time and energy" to the post. The ex-Manchester City player replaced Stephen Small at the start of 2012.
