Newry is perfectly placed this Christmas

Newry City’s reputation as a key Christmas destination has been growing for the past number of years, and 2017 looks to be no different. The city is 40 minutes from Belfast and just over an hour from Dublin. With great transport links, coupled with the strong euro, visitors from both sides of the border have been flocking to this vibrant place this festive season.

With its two major shopping centres, The Quays and Buttercrane, carrying all the major high street names to lots of independent retailers in the Cathedral and Creamery Quarters of the city, there’s no shortage of unique brands and high quality products. Whether you’re looking for fashion, food, jewellery, homeware or toys, Newry has the perfect mix of retailers, choice and value for money.

Newry’s buzzing nightlife is also a draw for many. From bustling bars offering up some of the coolest cocktails around, to a fantastic café culture perfect for weekend brunches or a shopping pitstop, and not forgetting the many award-winning restaurants scattered through the city, Newry really offers something for everyone.

With that in mind, many are choosing to extend their stay in one of the established hotels in the area, such as the four star Canal Court and Francis Court Hotel ideally located in the city centre, perfect for a Christmas getaway. With seasonal offers and a wonderful atmosphere, what is stopping you?

When the shopping is done, and dinner has been had, why not explore what else Newry has to offer this Christmas. The newly renovated Town Hall, built in 1893 will be hosting lots of musical fun, beginning with Annie the Musical from December 4-9. Another highlight to the festive calendar is the Christmas Twilight Market, happening on December 8 in Newry’s Historic Variety Market.

With live music, visit from Santa and his elves, along with a host of traders, it is the perfect place to pick up a unique gift for someone special and enjoy locally produced food.

If you are looking to head further afield, a visit to Carlingford Lough with its rich history and outstanding natural beauty should be on your list.  Only a 15-minute drive from Newry, it is a perfect way to end your time in the region, and leaving you counting the days until your return. Newry really has something for everyone this Christmas, and Newry Business Improvement District (BID) is delighted to support both businesses and visitors to Newry this Christmas season.
