Ulster Championship: Tyrone v Derry. How Tyrone rated

Niall Morgan: Came off his line to clear late in the second half when Derry had their only real sniff of a goal. Kick-outs, long and short, were excellent. 7

Aidan McCrory: Goal chance in the second half when he broke through but was denied by McKinless and then Keenan’s block on the line. Kept Ryan Bell scoreless. 6

Ronan McNamee: Marked Danny Tallon out of the game. Mark Lynch saw a bit more of the ball when he came on in the second half but couldn’t score either. 7.5

Padraig Hampsey: A composed full debut for Hampsey. Totally at home in this Tyrone system and put in a good shift. 6.5

Tiarnan McCann: Landed a point and his pace caused the Derry defence problems as he provided a passing option when the Red Hands broke from turnovers. 6.5

Rory Brennan: Tracked Danny Heavron and had him running towards his own goal at times. Also had a spell on Benny Heron. Unruffled, he used the ball well. 7

Peter Harte: Not one of his better games. Landed a free and a ‘45’ but hit three wides as well. Tyrone could afford them yesterday. 6

Colm Cavanagh: Won both throw-ins, but played most of the game in his familiar sweeper role. Broke forward late on to land a point. 6.5

Conall McCann: See Star Man

Kieran McGeary: His pass led to a free for Sean Cavanagh that opened the scoring. Picked up by Niall Keenan early on and was subbed before the break. 6

Niall Sludden: Full of running and very hard to pick up, the Dromore clubman has a handy knack of finding space where there appears to be none. Won and early free but was more influential in the second half. 6.5

Conor Meyler: Up against Enda Lynn and restricted the Derry captain’s influence on the game. Substituted at half-time. 6

Mark Bradley: Started the game brilliantly. He was involved in three early scores but hit two second half wides. 6.5

Sean Cavanagh: Still full of confidence and running. Wants the ball all the time and took over the free-taking duties yesterday. Landed six and one from play, two wides as well. 8

Mattie Donnelly: Had a game-long duel with Chrissy McKaigue and the pair of them cancelled each other out. Swing at the Slaughtneil man might have landed him in hot water. 6.5

Substitutes:

Frank Burns: Replaced McGeary before the break. Black-carded for bringing down Niall Keenan. 6

Ronan McNabb: On for Meyler at half-time. Marking jobs on Heron and McAtamney. Kept it tight. 6

Darren McCurry: Did his case for a starting spot no harm with three excellent points (see top score) in the second half. 7

David Mulgrew: Replaced Burns after his black card. Landed an excellent point. 6

Declan McClure: Another scoring sub. Had 10 minutes after replacing Sludden and settled quickly. 6

Lee Brennan: Two points (one a free) after coming on for Sean Cavanagh. 6

STAR MAN

Conall McCann (Tyrone)

MARKED his first start in the Championship with a point in either half and a combative display in the midfield engineroom. His performance was certainly one of the major plus points for Mickey Harte yesterday.

Covered a lot of ground and shadowed the physical Emmett McGuckin. Showed well for kick-outs too, his flick-on for David Mulgrew led to one of the scores of the game. 9
