GARDAÍ in Dublin are investigating after a man in his thirties was stabbed multiple times in the city centre.

The attack happened in the Grafton Street area on Sunday morning and the victim was taken to St James's Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

A man in his thirties has been arrested by gardaí in connection with the incident, and remained in custody on Sunday evening.

The attack follows a number of reported assaults in Dublin in recent weeks that have prompted calls for an increased Gardaí presence in the city centre.

Dublin Fingal Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly said: “Everyone should be entitled to be safe in our nation’s capital, be they Dubliners, workers or tourists. However, it’s clear that there are serious issues with crime in the city that must be tackled by government."
