A 29-year-old man has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the murder of his partner.

Gavin Murphy, from Coultry Drive in Ballymun, is accused of the murder of Jennifer Poole (24) at her apartment in Melville Drive in Finglas on Saturday afternoon.

Ms Poole, a mother-of-two, died in hospital following the attack.

One of her children was in the apartment at the time. The other child was with relatives.

A defence solicitor said his client will have to undergo mandatory 14-day Covid quarantine in custody before he can apply to the High Court for bail and will make an application when he is able to do so.

He was remanded in custody to appear again by video link at Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
