OSCAR-winning actor Matt Damon is back filming in Ireland months after he was stranded in Co Dublin in the early stages of the coronavirus lockdown.

The star of The Bourne Identity and Good Will Hunting is shooting scenes in Co Tipperary for director Ridley Scott's The Last Duel.

Fellow American Ben Affleck is also in the county filming the medieval epic, with Jodie Comer and Adam Driver also understood to be involved in upcoming scenes.

Damon (49) made headlines in April when he was caught in the Irish government’s coronavirus lockdown as he recorded scenes for the movie.

Unable to fly home to America, he isolated in the leafy Dublin suburb of Dalkey with his wife and children.

He proved a huge hit with residents who took to social media to praise how easily he has gone native and slipped into local life.

Speaking at the time, Damon said it was "one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been".

"We have this incredible set up in this place which is absolutely gorgeous," he said.

"I can't think of any place you’d rather be in a 2km radius of. It's insane."

Now Damon has returned to Ireland after earlier filming for the movie was temporarily postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Filming was due to begin in Co Tipperary yesterday, with scenes for the movie expected to be shot at Cahir Castle and Inch Field over the coming weeks.
