A man and a woman have died after being shot in north Dublin.

The woman was in her forties and the man in his thirties. Two other people are being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Gardai said the gun attack took place shortly after 4pm in a residential area of Ballymun.

The group was shot on Balbutcher Drive in the Poppintree area.

The injured woman and man "are being treated for less serious injuries at the Mater Hospital".

A silver Opel Zafira with 08 LS plates was found partially burnt out  a short distance from the scene.

Gardai have appealed for anyone who was in the Balbutcher Drive area between 3pm and 4pm to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 666 4400.
