A woman aged in her twenties has died in a house fire in Limerick, gardai said.

Emergency services were called to the scene at The Oaks, Riverbank, Annacotty at 3am on Monday.

The blaze was brought under control and the body of the woman, in her late twenties, was discovered in the house.

Her body was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigating gardai said there were four other people - three men and one woman - also in the house at the time of the fire.

They escaped uninjured.

A Garda spokeswoman added: "The scene is sealed off and a technical examination will take place later today."
