A CO Donegal child has died in a drowning tragedy while on holiday in Latvia.

Three-year-old Rolands Letins, a pupil at Cockhill community pre-school in Buncrana, died while visiting his grandparents along with his Latvian mum and dad.

It is understood Rolands, along with his older brother and parents Janeks Kuzelis and Dace Letina, had travelled to Cesis in Latvia on a family holiday.

The family have lived in Buncrana for several years.

A spokeswoman for Cockhill community pre-school described Rolands as a “delightful little boy” who was a privilege to teach and said everyone was heartbroken by the news.

It is believed he will be buried in his parents' native Latvia.
