THE PSNI has condemned attacks on its officers as "unacceptable" after four were assaulted in Co Antrim over a 12-hour period.

The officers were attacked in two separate incidents in the Ballycarry and Ballymena areas on Saturday, leading to two arrests.

The Ballycarry attack happened as police responded to a report of a domestic incident in the area on Saturday morning.

Two officers were assaulted, with one receiving cuts to their face.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offenses including assault on police, and he remained in custody on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with an assault on two officers in Ballymena on Saturday evening.

The two officers were kicked during the incident, with one receiving a kick to the head.

The woman was arrested and later charged with offenses including assault on police, resisting arrest and criminal damage.

She is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, and all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

PSNI Chief Inspector Adrian Bryan said: "Our officers are here to help, and respond to calls every day, assisting people. Assaults on our officers are unacceptable, and must not be tolerated as simply being ‘part of the job’."
