THE Enterprise train service between Dublin and Belfast was delayed on Wednesday following a "fatal incident".

Irish Rail announced on Wednesday afternoon that the line between Portmarnock and Malahide was closed until further notice as a result.

Delays were experienced on earlier Enterprise services, while it was later announced that the 19:00 and 20:50 services from Dublin to Belfast would be run with non-Enterprise carriages.

The incident also led to delays for Dublin's Dart light rail services in the city.

Meanwhile, a "mechanical issue" also led to a delay to Wednesday's 13.20 Enterprise, with the train halting in Dundalk until it was resolved.

The Enterprise service is jointly run by Irish Rail and NI Railways.

In a tweet on Wednesday's Enterprise delays, a Translink spokesperson apologised for "any inconvenience this may cause".
