TWO men are due to appear in court facing charges relating to a reported hijacking in south Belfast.

Police are investigating an incident in the Fitzroy Avenue area on Monday evening.

Officers received a report that three men entered a white Seat Leon and ordered the driver to take them to a shop in the Ravenhill Road area, telling him they had weapons.

It was reported that the driver was assaulted before he managed to exit the vehicle and raise the alarm in a nearby shop.

Two men were later arrested by police in the Newtownards Road area of the city.

Police have charged two men, both aged 23, with hijacking, false imprisonment and common assault, while one of the men is also charged with two counts of theft.

Both are due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Wednesday, and all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
